ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT ON USER PROFITABILITY AND FINANCING POTENTIAL OF GROUNDWATER CHARGES IN THE PARECIS AQUIFER SYSTEM
Abstract
Mato Grosso stands out in the international scenario as an important agricultural pole, especially in grain production. This economic activity is heavily dependent on water for irrigation, aiming to improve productivity. Since 2016, there has been an intensification of groundwater use for monoculture irrigation, especially due to the fact that some regions of the state presented surface water shortage. This pressure on groundwater brings to light an important factor, which is the absence of studies to support decision-making in the management of these waters. In this context, the need for investments in management is evident, including financial ones, which brings into focus the charging for water use. In view of this, this work proposes an analysis of the price of water and its impact on the profitability of the irrigators of the Parecis Aquifer and the charging’s fundraising potential, from the point of view of one of the pillars for financial sustainability of the Water Resources System. The analyses showed that the charging models, under the simulated conditions, have limited financing potential. However, the charging is able to finance actions to benefit the management of water resources, even with limitations.
