ABSTRACT: The objective of the study is to discuss the indigenous community governance of water resources and the relationship with health and diseases in the region of Baixo São Marcos, in Boa Vista - Roraima. This is a descriptive and qualitative study, conducted with 23 indigenous leaders, of both sexes, aged between 23 and 92 years. Participants were surveyed regarding community governance of water resources and the relationship to health and disease in their communities. Data were analyzed according to Bardin's content analysis methodology. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committees, regional and national. The sample identified that the understanding of the term governance by the leaders means: to watch over, take care of and avoid possible contamination of the water. The study evidenced complaints regarding water quality that were investigated, decision-making and initiatives for problem solving. Although there are social, environmental and health vulnerabilities of indigenous peoples in this region, indigenous community governance is effective, highlighting the non-acceptance of external impositions in its decisions and showing its position regarding the governance of its land.
