Abstract
Basic sanitation promotes health and inhibits the spread of waterborne diseases. Despite being essential to human dignity and survival, billions of people globally still lack access to sanitation services, especially in rural areas. The present research aims to analyze data regarding the quality of water supplied in healthcare establishments in rural areas in order to enable the planning of adapted solutions for sanitation of the rural population. For this purpose, information about Water distribution system registered with Sisagua was used, considering Ordinance GM/MS nº888/2021. The acidic pH obtained in samples from the Midwest region may have contributed to the low incidence of coliforms and E. coli in the region, while pH values greater than seven were found in other regions, reducing the effectiveness of free residual chlorine as a disinfectant agent, with worst scenarios in North and Northeast regions. Therefore, the data compiled in this research can encourage better water supply public policies for the different geographic regions in Brazil.
