This study investigates the complex relationship between land use and water quality in springs within the Rio das Antas basin, located in the municipality of Irati, Paraná. It highlights the importance of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) in maintaining water resources and native vegetation, as well as the challenges posed by anthropogenic pressures on these ecosystems. The research was conducted on 11 springs, where water samples were collected for physical, chemical, and microbiological analyses following standardized methodologies. Ecotoxicity was assessed using neonates of Daphnia magna. Land use and occupation around the springs were mapped using Google Earth Pro software, categorizing the areas as preserved, urban, agricultural, or exposed soil. The results showed significant variability in the water quality of the springs, with some meeting potability standards and others showing contamination by pathogens. The analysis revealed that water quality is directly linked to land use and occupation in PPAs. This study underscores the importance of PPAs in conserving the water quality of springs and highlights the need for effective public policies for the sustainable management of water resources. The protection and restoration of these areas are crucial to ensuring the availability of quality water, which is essential for life and the balance of ecosystems.
